A Testament to Resilience, Waiting to Tell Its Full Story. The Mannar Dutch Fort is a truly captivating historical site, offering a raw and authentic glimpse into Sri Lanka's colonial past. It's not a polished site, but a place where history whispers through the crumbling walls and windswept ramparts .

It was built 500 years before by Portuguese . Currently renovation work going on (Sep, 2025). It will become a best tourist attraction point once the renovation if they develop inside area of fort too. Need to develop the access road too.

The site is beautifully visible as you approach it while crossing the bridge towards Thaleimannar Island . Its prominent location stands out, offering a clear view. Inside, new construction work is underway, adding a touch of modernity to this significant area.

Its location near the lagoon is very strange. How did vessels reached there. Perhaps the channel leading to the Fort was deep at that time. The rampart walls are mostly in tact but most of the interior buildings are in ruins . Some conservation work is going on.
