Overview - Nuwara Eliya
Nuwara Eliya was a favourite retreat for British colonialists due to its resemblance to an English spring day. The town retains much of its colonial charm, featuring structures like the Nuwara Eliya Post Office, the Hill Club, and colonial bungalows, all surrounded by sprawling tea estates that produce some of the world's finest Ceylon tea. The main activities here revolve around nature, tea culture, and relaxation. Visitors can tour a tea factory to learn about the process, enjoy boat rides or pony rides around Lake Gregory, and relax in Victoria Park. Due to the high altitude, the climate is significantly cooler than the rest of the island, so warm clothing is recommended.

The colonial architecture is fascinating. The weather is surprisingly cold at night, so pack correctly! We loved the fresh strawberries and vegetables from the local market stalls.
